The American Diabetes Association held its 18th Annual Los Angeles Father of the Year Awards Dinner at The Beverly Hilton Hotel on June 17, 2016 raising more than $205,000 for the organization. Proceeds from the Father of the Year Awards Dinner benefit the local programs and the Association’S initiatives throughout Los Angeles.

Four local fathers who have demonstrated the ability to balance their personal lives, to serve as a role model for their children, and help make a positive difference in their community were honored.

  • Bill Baker, Key Grip for the TV Series NCIS
  • Mike Gill, Vice President Americas Medtronic
  • George Smull, Financial Advisor at Waddell & Reed
  • Fernando Villa, Partner at Allen Matkins

The Father’s Day Council, in a partnership with the American Diabetes Association, annually honors fathers throughout the country. The Honoree fathers are luminaries who have demonstrated the ability to balance highly successful professional lives with their role as a father while also actively serving their communities. The purpose of this award is to recognize men who have made family a priority while balancing demanding careers and community involvement.

By honoring men who are seen as leaders in the community, they are generating attention to the event that furthers the Father’s Day Council’s goal of heightening awareness of the importance of fatherhood.

The Los Angeles Father’s Day Council also presented the Howard Rosenberg Award to alumni father Kevin Kaiserman, M.D. in recognition of its namesake. This award recognizes an alumni father, family or volunteer who continues Rosenberg’s legacy by mirroring his passion for raising funds to support the important work of the Association. Dr. Kaiserman co-chaired the event along with Denise Jonas.
