Elton John’s Oscar Party Raises $6.2million for AIDS Foundation

Mariah Carey joined the host at the annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Oscars Viewing Party

It really was a wonderful, crazy night at Sir Elton John’s 24th Annual Academy Awards Viewing Party on Sunday with a star studded guest list including Mariah Carey, Steven Tyler and Hilary Swank.

Hosted by Sir Elton and husband David Furnish, the event raised $6.2 million for the British singer’s Foundation which provides funding and awareness in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

BellaLAMag.com was there and have all the details of the fabulous party, held at West Hollywood Park in LA.

Guests arrived at the event for cocktails followed by a gala dinner and viewing of the 88th Academy Awards® telecast.  For a fourth consecutive year, British celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay (holder of 14 Michelin stars) prepared an exquisite 5-course meal which was delicious!

The dinner was followed by a lively auction, which featured a Mariah Robertson artwork, a stunning BVLGARI Serpenti 18 kt white gold full pavé diamond necklace and a five-day vacation at Steven Tyler’s Hawaiian retreat. Tyler was there to help the bidding along and encouraged guests by saying that whoever stays there will get a lot of “romantic” action. It worked with the bidding going crazy for the exclusive getaway.

Also up for grabs was four unique crystal sculptures from the Elton John Music Is Love for Lalique collection, and tickets to the exclusive Vanity Fair Oscar Party later that evening. Hilary Swank’s beautiful BVLGARI ring became a surprise auction hit when she took it off her finger and included it in the lot.

Sir Elton John, who mingled among the tables all night and was quite the gracious host, thanked his guests for enthusiastically participating in the evening’s activities, which enabled guests to make gifts to the Foundation on the spot using their cell phones.

Throughout the evening video messages from EJAF supporters including Samuel L. Jackson, as well as live messages from EJAF friends Matthew Morrison and Jeffrey Tambor, encouraged everyone to text in pledges to support the Foundation’s urgent mission.

“By supporting our work, you are standing up against the issues that drive the AIDS epidemic. You are speaking out against racism, helping to end poverty and homelessness, and rejecting homophobia,” said Elton.

“You are advocating an end to mass incarceration and supporting universal access to drug rehabilitation and healthcare for all.  Fighting AIDS means fighting the things that divide us. Ending AIDS means ending these injustices.  By being here tonight, you are saying NO to stigma, NO to the status quo, and YES to a more just and equal society and the end of AIDS.”

Audi, BBVA Compass, TheBLUEFISH, and StyleHaul partnered with EJAF as the evening’s Co-Sponsors, and Fin Gray and Michael Melnick were Associate Sponsors.

Although hundreds of guests were at the event, it still felt an intimate affair with celebrities, notables and fellow guests all having a fun time. Leonardo DiCaprio finally winning his Oscar got the biggest cheer of the night. Here’s a full list of winners at this year’s Academy Awards:
