The struggle is real when it comes to finding the perfect foundation. So many options out there often leave us with a drawer full of useless products that go untouched. Let’s narrow things down together so you can finally meet your match!
Start by determining your exact needs:
Will you be wearing this foundation only during the evening? For work? Running weekend errands? It is OK to own multiple foundations (often known as a “foundation wardrobe”), as long as they serve different purposes. You wouldn’t wear a cocktail dress to buy your groceries, would you?
If you have good skin with a bit of redness in the T-zone, sheer coverage is for you. BB cream, CC cream, or a tinted moisturizer would be a great option. If you have some blemishes and an uneven complexion, you should opt for a medium coverage foundation. Full coverage is best for problem skin or when you want to look extra polished for a special event.
Are you searching for that “J-Lo glow,” or do you prefer a matte finish? A luminous finish will smooth and hydrate dry skin and blur out fine lines. If you find yourself touching up with powder all day, go for a matte finish, which will cut down on your powder breaks by keeping excess oil at bay.
Once you find a foundation that satisfies the requirements of your desired occasion, coverage, and finish, you cannot go wrong.
Still having a hard time deciding? Ask yourself these questions to narrow it down even further:
- Would you like SPF in your foundation?
- What PACKAGING is best for your lifestyle (pump, compact, tube, jar, etc.)?
- Do you need a LONG-WEARING foundation?
- What TEXTURE do you prefer (liquid, powder, cream, mousse, cushion, stick, oil, etc.)?
- Would you like TREATMENT in your foundation (lifting, brightening, firming, anti-aging, etc.)?
At this point, you should have your sights set on one formula. This means you have arrived at the last, and sometimes most difficult step: choosing your SHADE. Simply look at the color range and pick up a color that you think is best along with one shade lighter and one shade darker. Then use a Q-Tip or your finger to place three stripes on your jaw line. The one that seems to disappear into your skin is the lucky winner. Voila – you have met your match! Cheers to the new happy couple!
