Cheyenne Elliott is the scion of music royalty. She is the granddaughter of five-time Grammy Award winner Dionne Warwick and the cousin to Whitney Houston. Her uncle – Damon Elliott – is a hit music producer, and her father – David Elliott – is himself an accomplished singer/songwriter perhaps most well known for writing the Luther Vandross hit “Here and Now” – which itself won a Grammy Award. For some it’s hard work – for others it’s genetic. For Cheyenne Elliott, it’s both.
Bella New York had the opportunity to sit down with this impressive songstress. Here’s what she had to say:
What was your inspiration to become a singer?
My inspiration to become a signer has most definitely come from my family. But there are so many diversified musical artists that inspire me. Sam Smith, Stevie Wonder, John Legend, Etta James, Mariah Carey, Alicia Keys, Janice Joplin, Ne-Yo and Jimmy Hendrix are just some of the incredible musical talents I admire.
What genre of music do you enjoy singing and sharing with your fans?
I enjoy singing Pop Inspired Soul. My latest “With You” on iTunes has that positive upbeat vibe. I like music that makes you feel good.
You can also hear my voice on the “Feels So Good” album with my grandmother Dionne Warwick. There are other amazing guest signers on the album including Ne-Yo, Cyndi Lauper, Gladys Knight, Jamie Foxx, CeeLo Green, Ziggy Marley, Eric Paslay, Billy Ray Cyrus, Mýa, and yours truly singing versions of some of her most coveted hits. It really is an honor to be featured.
Dionne Warwick is your grandmother what’s the best advice she’s shared with you?
I have spent years on the road and on stage with my grandmother touring since I was twelve and her best advice was to be a powerhouse but to stay humble. To appreciate opportunities, work hard and stay focused.
What are some of your key fashion and beauty must-haves?
On stage and off, I like to have a signature look. I really love the way a red lip by Chanel looks with a champagne eye and winged eyeliner, it’s classic and beautiful. I also (like most women) have a thing for shoes and at times create my looks from the floor up! I love designer shoes that make a style statement.
A Bella Girl on the Go enjoys time with her gal pals. What are some of your favorite places to unwind and have fun in the city?
I love a good brunch at Sarabeth’s and then shopping with my friends.
Please share you best advice for either someone who wants to become a professional singer or just some advice in general for those Bella New York readers who want to make it to the top in their respective career paths.
My best advice is to be true to you and willing to work hard. I have been on the road and it’s not always easy. You need to be passionate about what you do. Also be focused and surround yourself with good mentors.
